It Started with a Truck, a Wand, and a Work Ethic
In 1987, Rick started cleaning carpets for someone else’s company. He learned the trade from the ground up, literally. Every stain, every fiber type, every frustrated homeowner who had been let down by the last guy. He studied what worked, what did not, and what it took to make a customer say "I am calling you next time." By 1991 he had saved enough to buy his own equipment and start R&L Carpet Upholstery Cleaning & Restoration out of Independence, Missouri. No investors. No franchise fee. Just Rick, his truck, and a commitment that has not changed in over three decades: show up on time, do honest work, charge a fair price, and make every carpet look better than you found it. R&L is still owner operated, and Rick is still the IICRC certified owner who does the work in your home. That is rare in this industry. 1987 Rick begins his carpet cleaning career, learning the trade hands on, cleaning hundreds of homes, studying every stain type and carpet fiber. The foundation of more than 35 years of expertise starts here. 1991 R&L Carpet Upholstery Cleaning & Restoration is born. Rick launches his own business out of Independence, MO with his own equipment and a simple promise: honest work at a fair price. Owner led from day one. 2000s The reputation grows across the KC metro. Word of mouth drives the business into Lee’s Summit, Blue Springs, Overland Park, Liberty, and dozens of surrounding communities. Rick earns IICRC certification, the industry’s gold standard. 2012 to 2017 Six Angie’s List Super Service Awards. Rick wins the Super Service Award in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017, earning recognition as one of the top rated carpet cleaners in the Kansas City area year after year. 2019 Named one of KC’s Top 10 Best Carpet Cleaners by Kansas City Bloggers.
